Introducing Flat Blaster

Details

Mines has a global reach – let’s find out how far Flat Blaster can go! Get your very own Flat Blaster and take him along on all your sesquicentennial adventures. We’ll post prompts on social media throughout 2024 and offer regular giveaways for showing off your Flat Blaster! Use the hashtag #flatblaster and remember to make Blaster proud by keeping content respectful and in line with the student code of conduct.

How to Participate:

  1. Color and decorate your Flat Blaster! Use pencils, markers, mixed media, anything that sparks your creativity.
  2. Snap a photo of your Flat Blaster on an adventure with you! This could be going on vacation, taking a research trip, studying abroad, going on a hike or even attending an event right here on campus.
  3. Keep your eye out for a call for submissions on the main Mines Instagram account (@coloradoschoolofmines). Multiple prompts will be shared throughout 2024, each with their own submission window.
  4. Post the photo to your Instagram profile using the tag #FlatBlaster during the submission window. If posting to Stories, use the hashtag and make sure to also tag @ColoradoSchoolofMines so we can see your post. Your profile must be public for your entry to be considered.
  5. If you are a winner, we’ll reach out via Instagram direct message and let you know where to pick up your prize! All prizes must be picked up on campus.

Rules:

  1. Only individuals associated with Mines are eligible to win (students, staff, faculty, alumni).
  2. Keep content respectful and in line with the Mines Student Code of Conduct. Entries that violate the code of conduct will not be considered.
  3. Winners will be chosen by randomized drawing.
  4. All prizes must be picked up on campus.

Annual Ornament Design

Details

Your art could be featured on Leadership Golden’s annual ornament!
To celebrate our 150th anniversary, Mines is partnering up with Leadership Golden and seeking submissions for their annual ornament design. Each year, a local artist donates a design to be featured on an ornament, which is sold as part of a fundraiser to help keep educational opportunities accessible to Golden residents (Mines community members who live in Golden included!). This year, submit your concept for an ornament and you could be selected to be the featured artist for 2024!

Indication of interest form is due by March 15. A draft concept/sketch of the ornament art is due March 31 and the artist will be selected the first week of April. The chosen artist can expect to do iterations in April with final art due May 15 for approval from the Leadership Golden Board. The artist will be asked to sign several ornaments, and encouraged to attend Golden’s Candlelight Walk the first weekend in December to meet with community members.

Designs should appeal to Golden residents, as well as members of the Mines community. For example, consider depicting Mt. Zion and the “M” since it is a common sight across Golden. You can see the “Collector’s Series” of ornament designs dating back to 1986 here.

Leadership Golden is an educational and networking organization focused on volunteerism, leadership and community. Leadership Golden is one of very few leadership programs in the nation that is tuition free.
